Very Interesting Article in todays Wall Street Journal about ISP's in England...Its on Page B10 and has the following headline
UPSTART ISPs OFFER FREE ACCESS...
The following is part of that story.
...."While free Internet providers have grabbed market share and caught the attention of AOL in Europe , Wall Street analysts are skeptical that many will survive on this side of the Atlantic. Most free ISPs make their money by selling on screen advertising, but it is uncertain whether advertisers will spend enough on the free services
to make them profitable.
There are only so many ad dollars and so many e-commerce relationships you can form" said Bruce Casrel . a senior analyst at Forrester Research Inc. in Cambridge Mass.
It makes this model challenging.
"THIS ISNT THE CASE IN ENGLAND and other parts of Europe, where internet users PAY the telephone company for each minute they spend online. The phone company then PAYS the ISP a portion of its revenue from those calls. So in England a ISP can give its service away to users and still make MONEY.
Voluntary Disclosure...Very Long...
