I've got no problem with shorts...only with those idiots who post the types of things you refer to in a later post here, inflammatory, crowing, schoolyard name calling stuff. Got no time for it.

I've defended shorts before on a couple of threads when they were polite and people were flaming them. If the goal is to make money, don't see why it's morally and ethically any worse to bet a stock will go down than that it will go up.

In any case, Gary B Smith of theStreet.com (does a TA column, very interesting reading) has had a couple of columns on shorting, and basically says if you don't have shorting in your tool bag you're missing half the tools.

I've never done it either; I don't even know if I *can* do it on-line through our friend Versus (E*Trade-Canada-sort-of). Will watch with interest (and envy when y'all make money on it!).

This certainly will be a good period, with much volatility coming up.
