Larry, Alliant had a $8MM prototype project with government. If it won the contract the expected revenue for alliant would be $500MM within the following year. Source: Olde Discount stock analysis of Alliant Tech Systems spring 1999.

I think the reason they're not giving out numbers is a result of the failure five years ago, when they did. As I recall, Lev said last year that he would announce P.O's after customers had taken delivery of a substantial quantity of product and accepted it, and that we'd have to watch the quarterly reports for the revenues. So we may never see the actual amounts associated with any specific contracts, which is unfortunate. I hope it's not the case.

Working from memory, as I recall the AR-14, or armalite, was the predecessor of the M-16. It was produced in Belgium and had tryouts with various NATO units. I believe the time-frame involved between production of the AR and the M-16 was a few years. Regarding this new weapon, if first trials are successful I would suppose it would be four to five years before a changeover. What's important here, if you know the military, is that if the weapon works there will be massive orders of the battery for stockpile purposes. So, it looks like we now have a bottom line; how important the Alliant contract will be is, for the present, anyone's guess. Nevertheless, I am intrigued by this announcement because I wonder how the battery is used, how it is re-charged, how you re-charge under battle conditions, what kind of ammunition is used, etc.
