Ooops, sorry, Thinking Machines tried that, didn't they? The software overhead choked the
programmers and investors before it choked the processors, right?


As an alumni of TMC, I am forced to defend it's technical staff. The software overhead for the system did not choke programmers. In the last two years of the company's existence, the compiler and math libraries groups were turning out products that made programming a massively parallel computer fairly simple. The company failed because the management depended too much on government funding and (strangly enough) because of an exorbitant lease.
