I use extra bleach to kill whatever germs may lurk. I'm frustrated to be using a communal laundry. If I daudle then someone dumps my laundry on the table, thereby displaying my undergarments to the world (or this small part of it). So I move wash promptly to the dryer and promptly retrieve dry clothes to my quarters. I find this really irritating. Some might consider it an advancement towards my being more civilized. I am glad to have a fridge to grow things in the privacy of my own home.
