Jay, not only is AirTouch well managed, but it bought its domestic cellular franchises at lower costs than most others. Since the value is shown on the books at cost, rather than market, AirTouch has always been relatively undervalued. Vodafone knows a bargain when they see it. The combination of the two is probably the best designed merger in the entire telecommunications field. Art

And furthermore - wasn't AirTouch the absolute first (U.S.) CDMA "adopter" ?

Thus, Qualcomm may have thought "let's ship the first Thin Phones to our oldest friends."
