A large part of the "progress" of which you speak was funded by the US taxpayer!

Would you care to amplify on that inane statement, Richard??

What you seemingly just said is that the greater percentage of Japan's GDP is a direct subsidization by the US govt.

Now if you were trying to state that Japan enjoyed the benefits of a "marshall plan", I would concur. But then again, so did Germany and Japan's GDP is(was?) larger than their former axis allies.

No Richard... Money is part of it, but it is how that money is invested and the return that you receive that is important. The Japanese, up until the mid-80s had done a magnificent job, essentially on their own (minus the managerial expertise of Charles Deming).

And Japan would be a contender now for economic health, had they made the difficult decisions towards fighting recession in the early '90s.

America didn't create everything, Richard. We may have had our hand in remaking a lot of these countries, but they did the greatest portion of the rebuilding on their own. You shouldn't take that credit away from them.

Regards,

Ron
