If someone steals your credit card, they can use it anywhere - few merchants require further identification. that is true whether you are purchasing online or at the neighborhood store. All the hype about web security comes down to stupidity on the part of the user, IMO. If a user really wants his transactions to be secured, they can purchase a $100 finger print reader that validates any use of their encrypted "wallet" with credit card info. That is way more secure than carrying your credit or debit card on you - it can be stolen or lost. Some credit card thefts occur by employees "stealing" the credit card information when users purchase stuff at restaurants or stores - all you need is a name and number and a P.O. address.

I wish people would think about this - the Internet is MORE secure than holding a physical credit card - and the problem in this case was that the physical card was stolen.
