Being employed by Ariba, I cannot of course comment on material matters. What I can say is this: I've been in five successful IPOs in my career: Equitec, Ingres, Sybase, Illustra (actually a buy-out by Informix), and Ariba. I've been in the software business for over 20 years. I've never, ever, been involved in any way with a company that had so many things going for it. The talent of the management, the skills and intellect of the engineering team, the teamwork and lack of politics, the quality of the product both in design and implementation puts every other company I've worked with to shame.
While one could argue that some of the current stock price is from the internet hype in general, this is one company that will live up to, and IMHO surpass the hype.

As an FYI,prior to Ariba I worked for Commerce One, as director of product marketing and product management, and I bailed out of there, leaving a ton of stock and a five minute commute to get on board at Ariba. Oh man, the stories I could tell of what motivated me and a ton of others to bail on that company… Just take a look at their latest S1 amendment. When you have to pay off your founders so they don't dump the stock, well, you get the picture. I've no doubt their stock will pop on IPO - heck, in this tornado, even that turkey can fly. But I think they'll be an example of the kind of company that could hurt the industry.
