I'm also a little surprised not to hear any insights from the annual meeting. I missed the internet show as it was live only I guess.

Here's a link to L&H doing a speaker independent phone system for Korean Stock quotes. Not a direct thing to GM, but getting close. L&H is branching into speaker independent systems, and they have a lot of languages to work with. I don't know why we won't start to see announcements like this in English, but haven't noticed one yet.

Eagerly awaiting any news from the meeting.

Regards, Mark

Lernout & Hauspie and Bumil to Provide Speech Technology for Korea's Largest Automated Stock Quote Service
L&H's Automatic Speech Recognition Provides Convenient, Accurate, Up-to-Date Stock Information to As Many as 200,000 Customers Daily; Technology Paves Way for Future Far East L&H Implementations
BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 25, 1999-- Lernout & Hauspie (NASDAQ:LHSP - news; EASDAQ:LHSP) (L&H(TM)) announced today that it is the sole provider of speech recognition technology for the ASR Stock Quote Server, Korea's largest telephone based automated stock quote and trading service. As part of the service, L&H's automatic speech recognition (ASR 1500) engine recognizes and responds to as many as 200,000 customer requests daily for stock quotes and trades. The application, developed by L&H business partner Bumil Information & Communications Co. Ltd. (BIC), has been fully operational since March of this year.

Telephony-based automated information retrieval and transaction services have become increasingly popular during the past few years as speech technologies, such as L&H's ASR 1500, have matured and been able to support much improved accuracy levels. The services allow customers to quickly and conveniently access up-to-the-minute accurate stock quotes and conduct trades using voice only via any telephone at any time. They provide vendors with an affordable way to increase productivity, efficiency and responsiveness and to offer value-added services.

''Industry analysts predict that the market for licensing speech technology for telecommunications and telecommunications applications will be one of the fastest growing markets in the field of speech technology,'' said Gaston Bastiaens, president and CEO of L&H. ''The ASR Stock Quote Server is as an excellent example of the type of application that is fueling this growth worldwide. We are very excited to have successfully launched this service with our partner Bumil and look forward to implementing similar solutions in the near future in the Far East.''

''It is the Korean Securities Computer Corporation's (KSC) responsibility to provide the most accurate information and convenience to end-users,'' said Kim, Kyung-joong, president and CEO of KSC. ''By adding speech recognition in our information providing services, we have provided convenience and easy access to end-users. By leveraging L&H's and Bumil's proven technology, the ASR Stock Quote Server provides the optimal solution.'' KSC is responsible for all information networking and trading on the Korea Stock Exchange.

Bumil Information & Communications Co. Ltd. (BIC) is a leading systems integrator developing customized applications for the telecommunications industry. The company has been an L&H Licensee and joint development partner since March of 1997. Its customers include major Korean telecommunications providers, LG Securities and other major corporations in Korea.

''By utilizing L&H's proven technologies and leadership in the industry, we were able to open the largest stock quote information and trading service in Korea,'' said Seo, Ju-chul, President of BIC. ''BIC's goal is the realization of practical speech-enabled applications of the highest quality at the lowest cost. With the relationship and support of L&H and the BIC's organizational approach, BIC will provide optimal speech-enabled applications in the Korean market.''

Straight,

As of about an hour ago, there appears to be about 24,650 people who have signed up for myTalk. Not bad for 12 days work (2,000 per day more or less).

My assumption is based on approximately 9,000 sign-ups for the 9840 number, 9,000 for the 9841 number, and 6650 for the 9842 number. I am also basing my figure on the fact that the numbers are assigned sequentially and the numbers start at 1000 (which is the first four digit number in a four digit sequence). I would doubt that they would start a four digit number starting with 0001, but I could be wrong.

I have already received two important emails through myTalk while I was on the road, and I can say that it has definitely helped me in less than the two weeks since I signed up for the service.

Some of the drawbacks to the service is that it can't read attachments through the phone or get the .wav files (sent to you) from over the phone. It appears as though GMGC doesn't want this service to be basically just a personal answering service. Which I definitely understand. Maybe myTalk will come with this feature in the near future at a slight cost per month to the user. Despite these drawbacks, I definitely like this service if for no other reason that what I stated in paragraph 2.

Take care,

Kurt
