Penni, I would suggest the retreat is the perfect place to discuss the issue. And believe you will be surprised to find some who share your view.

Dialogue is the key. Simple dialogue, I fear we are losing that wonderful art form as we each grope for the corner of the ring and lash out against those who think differently than ourselves. Talking and discussing, without travelling up ladders of inference and believing others have "hidden agenda's" is something very precious and valued. Maybe in quieter times it was a lot easier, not sure though.

Have a safe and enjoyable excursion.

Michael

Which sandwich: I bet you are diplomatic. I have a diplomacy degree, in real life.

We really want to hear what happened at the DMV, you teaser. Two beautiful asiatic I think lilies opened up on the deck this morning. Wow. One a soft apricot, the other cinnabar.

I'm a total sucker for flowers. Each time one of them opens, whatever kind, it seems, I think "especially that one."

They're my opiate. The opiate of me. They keep me going. Even though they too are lying to us, it's a nice try.

Why do they call them "retreats"? I guess it's better than "routed in total disarray." "I was never treated the first time."

I ask too many questions, don't I. That's what happens when you give me an internet. I think we've discovered that.

I cut my sandwich, a real beauty, in half this morning with what must have been a pretty sharp knife. It's sitting here on a creamy mocha colored glass plate, beside me. It is cut perfectly, like Half Dome in Yosemite. I just held it up and looked along its face, if a sandwich can have one, and it's like masonry. Laser cut. Stained glass. Half an exotic geode. A tropical one. Even the sunflower seeds in the bun are halved. Or thirded and two thirds. It looks like a geologic cross section of a salt dome or something. It's the best cut half a sandwich I've ever seen. Swirls of orange, green, yellow, deer suede. There's even some red-violet linings of purple cabbage surrounding their white centers. A split sesame seed. You can practically detect the seasonings in the patty. (Patty?)

This is probably the best cut sandwich of my life. So far. Right here; right now! Wow. It's exciting, isn't it? Out of 16,790 sandwiches, this one's the best.

Probably, there are some torn sandwiches on the other end of the spectrum. Best forgotten. And hard to judge. Compared to carborundum polished flatness.

I think I will helium freeze this guy. If I can resist eating it. Mayhaps the Smithsonian is interested. Otherwise, of course, I'm running out of Fame options.

I did cut it carefully. Consciously. But I had no idea this would happen. I guess I could freeze it and have the local foundry over by the lumberyard cast me one in brass, for the yard collection.

Oh! ~ this reminds me of another project I'm working on; that I don't think anyone's ever worked on before.

And, heh heh, you think you're going to find out what it is?? Without telling us the DMV story?

Since I am about to embark on a weekend women's retreat with a group of very strong Christians, I don't think I'll be talking about this much...

Yes, I heartily agree, a suitable time for lots of vacant nodding of the head, accompanied by as insipid a smile as you can swing. Having gone to a Southern Baptist university (I was paying my own way and those guys had a lot of money), for my first semester or two I fought the good fight, doing the great debate with various pretty wired fundamentalists when they approached me regarding the status of my immortal soul. And what you find out after a few times around is that you can't conceivably dissuade them from anything they are saying, so you slowly develop and hone the above technique to let them to through their routine as quickly and painlessly as possible. And then it's done and overwith, and you don't need to take a Tagamet.
