[Re: CopperGold Newz]

Hi Mark -

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I came across it in one of about a half-dozen daily e-mail newsletters I receive. Unfortunately, my newly installed e-mail software on my new laptop was configured to clean up the "Deleted Items" folder when you closed the app.

I've been looking around for you, and came up with the following, which isn't the exact release, but is close:

June 14, 1999, Issue: 1164
Section: Extra: Communications Components

Chipset combines DSL and V.90 functions

Motorola Inc., Austin, Texas, has rolled out a chipset that combines DSL (digital subscriber line) technology and a V.90-compliant analog modem on one device.

The new CopperGold Lite solution enables PCs to support V.90, full-rate-ADSL, and G.Lite protocols. ADSL is a high-speed modem technology that transfers data up to 8 Mbits/s, while G.Lite transports data over existing phone lines at 1.5 Mbits/s.

The chipset consists of an analog front-end IC, a 24-bit DSP with an integrated PCI 2.2-compliant interface, and software for V.90/G.Lite functionality. The device is compatible with the ADSL DMT, T1.413i2 Category I and II, and RFC2364 PPP and RFC1483 Ethernet over AAL5 standards.

Motorola is sampling the chipset, with production slated for the third quarter. The chipset is $35 in 10,000s.

I'll continue looking around for the source of the first one.
