Thread: Man, I think I am actually depressed! When I saw this headline appear, I tell ya I went into a funk! 14:59 [LU,ASND] LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES SAYS IT COMPLETED MERGER WITH ASCEND COMMUNICATIONS, VALUED AT $24 BLN. All along it really never hit me. ASND is being integrated into a growing company with excellent management. The parent is going to keep his hands off the new little toy on the west coast. Hopefully ASND's engineers wont be scared off by Bell Labs breathing down their back. I thought this marriage was the perfect fit. So I really never thought about ASND, per se, as being 'eliminated'. But sheesh, you wake up in the morning and dial in and your home page is the ASND chart on Quote.com and that puppy is not moving. Cruise over to the ASND home page and there is not 1 ascending sun logo anywhere. ASND has been wiped off the face of the planet with the stroke of a computer key. This is what makes it hard. All the research and hard work, 10 hour days researching and researching, trying to determine if little ole ASND is going to actually going to escape the killer clutches of CSCO. Keep checking the SI boards, keep checking Yahoo, keep reading Network World, keep in touch with my colleagues still in the biz, trying to determine if there is ANY crack developing in the ASND armor, thinking if this little company can get it's foot in the CSCO door with ANY type of credibility there just might be a little fire in all this smoke. And alas, the TNT and GSX rose from the ashes and KICKED CSCO'S ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yessiree, mid '97 and early '98 was a real life, never to forget, learning experience! I feel those that paid their dues during this time definitely deserve the riches LU is about to bestow upon us. No, I didnt make it to SFO. Ive been in Jill Jail and I think you all know who was responsible for that. To that end I am putting together a montage of previous posts to put a quality finishing touch on this fine company that I feel was a part of my family. Sheesh, when you spend that much time on something you cant just kiss it good bye and move on. Ascend Communications deserves an appropriate SI send off. So I am going to work to put it together and it will be posted by Monday. I want to thank ALL of the employees of Ascend! It is with your dedication and vision that made this all possible and I want you to know that not all of your shareholders are faceless. I am extremely grateful and will never forget your fine company. Ascend made Mighty Mizzou and Mighty Mizzou is mighty proud of Ascend. Mighty proud!!!!
