It depends on what the grant price is. In other words, he would still need to pay the grant price upon exercise of his option. Even though AMZN throws its stock around with abandon I cannot believe they gave it to him. However, even if the grant price was signficantly below current market value I as a long would be upset. The granting of undermarket options dilutes the value of other outstanding shares.
