Software makers board Linux bandwagon

Corel president Michael Cowpland says Linux especially needs help to move from the enthusiast, server and high-end market to the mass market, through developments such as Corel's planned Linux desktop, which will provide a layer between the "complicated codes" and applications.

"The average user doesn't want to know about the operating system any more than you want to know who made the gearbox in your car," he says. "We want to bury the operating system."

If Corel can product a product like this than maybe they might have something. Now the question is can they get the unhappy MS users to convert. The first thing that comes to my mind is that the MS format files will have to be converted successfully to even have a chance at these users.
