KZNerd:

At earnings report I am sure we will get a sense of how much cash AMD has on hand (vantis + other if any) and to coin a startup term, their monthly burn rate. That should give us some idea how far they can go. Remember usually when the upside potential is as high as it is with AMD, it is because the corresponding risks are equally as great. The next few months intc will try to 'starve out' AMD as they have been trying to do since the beginning of the year. From where I am sitting, AMD has to execute well and needs a lot of good luck and it will make it. Time will tell. And if you are worried about your investment, it has been said over and over on this thread the current AMD stock price is at least equal to book/scrap value. And I suspect that is true.

Good luck,

ted

Kznerd,

Re:" I think the point raised about the Vantis sale was not whether it was a good idea but that the cash may be be burned up in only 9 months. What if Q3 is another bad quarter? When does AMD run out of $$$$?"

Q3 will be another bad quarter possibly another $100M+ loss.

However these lossess include very heavy depreciation.

So the loosess in Q2/Q3 may well total $250M but on a cash basis the reduction in cash will likely be less than $100M.

So by end of Q3 the company will still have around $800++M in cash.

Q4 they have a chance to be profitable depending upon yields and dresden status of course.

Regards,

Kash
