MYSTIC, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 25, 1999--Enersphere.com (www.enersphere.com) has ordered a USA Video Interactive system (NASD: USVO; ASE: US), including its Video-on-Demand(tm) and Wavelet technology, as the first in a planned international deployment of servers providing Video-on-Demand(tm) and other services to communities via set-top boxes. The Ontario-based Enersphere.com works with community leaders and members to create community-based Intranet systems that utilize the Internet to provide residents with movies and other entertainment content but also with such value-added services as enhanced TV, monitored smoke detectors, automatic meter reading, health and education services, Email and Internet access. The services will be offered at low cost to all members of a geographic community, establishing what is essentially a community Intranet. Advertising revenues from local and national accounts will subsidize the services, and E-commerce will be available for local vendors. Enersphere.com is currently preparing several pilot programs and expects to have successful demonstrations in Canada and the United States later this year. "We've chosen the USA Video Interactive system because it is superior to any other currently available," said Rick Whittaker, president of Enersphere.com. "It is fully compatible with the fast-approaching future enhancements in bandwidth; it is fully scalable so we can easily expand our capabilities as communities and services we offer grow; and it is the highest quality, most cost-effective solution for the future of TV and the Internet." The USA Video Interactive system will include an NT-based server from SeaChange International (Nasdaq: SEAC), the USA Video Interactive Video-on-Demand(tm) and Wavelet technologies, and full training, service and maintenance. "It's fitting that our first sale is to a company with a revolutionary and forward-looking approach to the future of the Internet and TV that actually provides a tangible benefit to the community," said Edwin Molina, President of USA Video Interactive. Molina also noted that this sale marks the official transition of the company from research and development to sales and marketing. "After ten years of developing our Video-on-Demand(tm) system, we're now in sales. While we are constantly improving our technology, our R&D these days is primarily tailoring our systems to specific requirements of clients in education, Internet advertising, home entertainment, security and several other markets." The partners in Enersphere.com are Rick Whittaker and John Cullen. Cullen also is a partner in The Cantemore Group, which provides consulting services to USA Video Interactive. USA Video Interactive is an international designer and supplier of high-tech Video-on-Demand(tm) systems, services and solutions. The USA Video Interactive technology allows users to view streaming video or to access digitized video libraries, including movies, sports, other entertainment, educational resources, corporate training seminars and other archives. The USA Video Interactive technology gives users full-motion video; the unique flexibility of standard, VCR-like controls of play, fast forward, reverse and pause; and the convenience of a standard internet-browser format for access. USA Video Interactive can utilize MPEG-1, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 compression techniques but prefers its Wavelet compression technology. The USA Video Interactive Wavelet technology allows direct streaming and download and play options; provides video images significantly faster and at a higher degree of resolution than with previously available methods; significantly overcomes bandwidth restrictions; and eliminates the blockiness and slowness of current technologies, all at a lower cost. An essential feature of the USA Video Interactive technology is that it allows extremely high compression ratios while retaining broadcast quality. --30--jgm/cgo* ccv/cgo CONTACT: USA Video Interactive Tony Castagno, 860/572-1560 or Kevin Yorio, 860/572-1560
