Iraq's oil minister to visit Sudan soon - petroleum export postponed or not?

BAGHDAD, June 26 (Reuters) - Iraq's Oil Minister Amir Muhammed Rasheed said on Saturday that he would travel to Sudan soon to be present at the inauguration of an oil pipeline.

''We will be visiting Sudan in two days time...to attend the opening of an oil pipeline between a (Sudanese) oil field and a port in the Red Sea,'' Rasheed told reporters after signing an agreement with Jordan's Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Suleiman Abu-Uleim.

Rasheed said Iraq had helped Sudan to carry out several oil projects and that the oil pipeline was one of them.

Iraq had earlier pledged to help Sudan rebuild power stations and dams, and had provided industrial expertise. Baghdad maintains strong ties with Sudan, which was sympathetic to Iraq in the 1990-91 Gulf crisis over Kuwait.
