You did not respond to my questions. Why? Perhaps you can't. One commerical application for ATM over IP. I told you...go look at G.lite. QoS isn't a big mess since ATM QoS is mapped to discrete IP QoS mechanisms. Although I don't think this is part of the spec...it is what many are doing. Dumping legacy equipment only makes sense if it gives you a competitive advantage. Otherwise I agree, it makes no sense. I leave the rest of that for you to figure out on your own. As for voice over IP. There are thousands of businesses that are doing it today and if you call someone at Cisco, Active Voice, Vocaltec, parts of Nortel, etc.. you'll be talking on Voice over IP..and you know what... you won't even know it. VoIP is ready for prime time..scary - isn't it?! E911 is solvable...and is being solved... today the IP networks offer gateway functionality to get around this issue. UUNET - not care about delays? I think if you asked them they'd say something different. Perhaps something like IP end to end offers there customers better services without compromising QoS. You need to educate yourself on IP QoS. There are many sources...but if you're going to hide your head in the sand I can't help you. With the JNPR IPO, and LU buying Nexabit you have to wonder why everyone else is talking IP cores...and you're here arguing TDM and legacy networks. Is that all NN has to offer??? OG
