I like that referral to "legacy" housing. Is that just an up to date way of saying most of them 20 years + IBM folks have made easily 500% and more appreciation on those long ago (legacy) home purchases?

Actually, I believe this is a smart move on IBM's part. While very high capacity server drive sales are falling of rapidly, in favor of the less than 10GB capacity server drives, it makes sense to focus development on the Fujisawa design approach which is a good bit lower cost design.

San Jose will still do the 15K-rpm designs, along with the proximal probe, perpendicular recording, near-field-recording and advanced GMR development. Still a large plate full.
