I am interested to hear if it is true that volume is double counted. It certainly would mean a great deal if we have run out of investors at 5 million shares (2.5 for real)

I haven't ever heard anything about this, and don't know anything about it, but if I had to make an educated guess:

Look at Quote.com watch the trade sizes that go by. There are a lot of trades that read 100 and add 100 to the volume. I don't think there are a lot of traders doing 50 share chunks. This leads me to believe that shares are counted once per trade.
