Digital River Provides 3Com With the Ability to Deliver
Modem Upgrades Via the Web

Business Wire - June 28, 1999 08:19

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 1999--Digital River (Nasdaq: DRIV), the
leader in electronic software delivery (ESD), today announced a partnership agreement with 3Com
Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS), a leading provider of innovative information access products and
network system solutions. Under the agreement, Digital River will provide 3Com's customers with
the ability to download modem upgrades for 15 different models of 33.6K to 56K modems.

Digital River developed a Web-commerce platform to interface with 3Com's sophisticated Internet
Upgrade Wizard and deliver 56k upgrades via the Web. This unique capability allows 3Com
customers to easily enhance their Internet access speeds and capabilities, as well as obtain feature
enhancements and code updates.

The new upgrade system is replacing a direct dial system, which was only available in countries that
had dedicated dial-in servers. The 3Com Internet Upgrade Wizard leverages the users' existing
Internet connection, making it a globally accessible system.

"With Digital River managing the electronic delivery of our product enhancements, we are able to
securely deliver modem upgrades anywhere Internet access is available," said Salim Ling, VP of
Product Management & Product Marketing for the Personal Connectivity Division of 3Com. "Digital
River's leadership in providing the seamless delivery of software over the Internet and secure
purchases made them a logical partner to manage the processing and downloads of modem
upgrades for our customers."

"We are excited to partner with a leading, global supplier of information access products like
3Com," said Joel Ronning, Digital River, CEO. "Companies like 3Com are proponents of resolving
bandwidth issues to make the Internet an environment for the efficient exchange of information --
something Digital River endorses 100 percent."
