Rascal,

You say that you feel AOL sees satellite, cable, DSL, narrowband as DISTRIBUTION and an opportunity to get more subscribers at a price that makes money

Of course, or they wouldn't be in business. The question was the rate of that growth. A 50% growth rate is still very healthy. I've always thought they were better off trying to push AOL content rather than just be a big ISP. Which brings up another question. I took an informal poll a while back among people on the net but not AOL subscribers to find out whether they would switch to AOL (This was at about the time of the "You've Got Mail" movie.) I got no takers, which got me thinking about why AOL has so little content that can bring in existing non-AOL net users. If content is king--and I think it is--AOL needs to draw more and more on content appealing to other than newbies. After all, as time goes by, there will be fewer and fewer newbies.
We'll dig up this posts next June and see what kind of a subscriber base AOL has at the time.
Best,
--Steve
