$am,
Certainly special event programing helps draw in new people and retain old subscribers but the sticky apps you mentioned are better, a continuing draw rather than a one-shot draw. Chat is probably the biggest app for retaining existing customers. The annoyance of changing email addresses is probably the number two retainer of existing customers. I have no idea what app would do it, but something that could draw in existing web users as strongly as chat hold existing AOL users would be useful, say, free realtime quote lists automatically updated or free level two nazdaq or free fax-to-email but through AOL's local access numbers. Something that people outside AOL say, that's something useful I don't get elsewhere.
Best,
--Steve
