Mike - Do DLCs need to be replaced by next generation DLCs (NGDLC). I remember that about 1/2 of the recent order of Bell Atlantic from Nortel was for next generation digital loop carrier equipment.

Quick answer - in general, the current generation of DLCs deployed in the field cannot support xDSL service. So, DLCs are needed to provide xDSL service past the CO boundaries, and only new ones can support xDSL. Here's the kicker - only certain xDSL products are supported by only certain DLCs. I posted a compatibility list of ADSL vs. supporting DLCs a while back on the thread if you can find it.

Mike, I think that this is the link you were looking for from Denver Techie's sculpted works, concerning the DSL/NGDLC comparison chart.

A belated thanks to Denver: Thanks.

Now, can someone else point me to the Adaptive Broadband posts of several months ago that I was actually looking for in the first place? -g-
