INTERNET STOX (STORY #564).... Speaking of 'nets,
more info from Mary Meeker (INTERNET GODDESS).
They all did a screen of top Internet IPOs from
the past three years. Pretty Chillin' (stone
cold and effect)! Ready? In 1997, there were
16 (significant/real) Internet IPOs; only one
(poor Peapod!) is selling below its first-day
close. In 1998, there were 25 Internet IPOs
(that's all?!), of which seven are trading
below their first-day close! And now, get this,
in 1999 (so far!) there have been 65 Internet
IPOs and 49!--49!!--are selling below their
first-day close. What? Well, more and more.
And more and more of it junk! Or so the invisible
hand says!!
