EPD & Thread:

Don't think this one was posted. Another take on Dell's recent announcements (by IIOnline).

"Michael Dell Spells Out the Next Legs For Growth"
iionline.com

Excerpts:

Speaking at the PC Expo technology trade show, Michael Dell said that there were four major growth opportunities for Dell up ahead--geographic expansion, increasing sales of enterprise computing systems (i.e. storage devices and servers), an expanded services portfolio, and an increase in sales to the consumer PC market. Each of these four businesses is a '$10 billion opportunity' according to Dell, representing a possible $40 billion in additional revenue to be gained over the next decade.

Lofty as that goal sounds, Dell stands a decent chance to achieve it thanks to a number of factors. The key driver will be Dell's goal to add to its already impressive market share in key segments. Most of this growth will come from the international arena where Dell's market share is relatively low (its worldwide share of the consumer market is only 5%). Michael Dell predicts that the $170 bilion worldwide PC industry will expand at 14% annually for next few years, with most of the growth happening outside the U.S. The reason: While the U.S. spends about 3.5% of its GDP on information technology and services, rates in other countries are much lower, but have started to catch up...

Dell should also benefit from its recent entrance into the enterprise storage market...

Similarly, Dell has begun to aggressively target the consumer PC market...

Finally, as we've noted in previous reports, Dell is well on its way to achieving its stated goal of deriving 50% of total revenue from Internet sales. 30% of revenue came from the web in the most recent quarter.

Dell also recently announced that it will expand its Internet service provider business by adding additional partners (the company already has partnerships with Excite, AOL, AT & T, etc.) and it is likely in the future that Dell will in some way receive a portion of revenue from these partners.

Lastly, Dell announced that it would begin auctioning computers online. When we spoke to the company regarding any additional Internet initiatives, the spokesman said there were additional initiatives planned, but since there hadn't been an official announcement, he couldn't divulge the information.
