"Harris PRISM Chips Selected for 3Com's High Speed Wireless LAN Solutions PRISM Chips Will Enable 3Com(R) AirConnect(TM)11 Mbps Products"

June 25, 1999

MELBOURNE, Fla., June 24 /PRNewswire/ Harris' PRISM(R) Chip Set will be used in a new family of wireless networking products demonstrated by 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) at PC Expo. This summer, 3Com mapped out an aggressive wireless connectivity roadmap that includes product families for enterprise customers, travelers and consumers. Harris' industry-leading PRISM Chip Set will be used in 3Com's standards-compliant, high-speed AirConnect(TM) wireless LAN solution.

"3Com wins two important firsts with their
announcement," said Ron Van Dell, vice president and
general manager of Harris' Communications Products
Business. "They're the first big networking company to
offer 11 megabit per second wireless solutions for the
Enterprise space,
and their home networking solution is
expected to be the first to meet the IEEE's 802.11 high
rate standard, now in draft form. 3Com is an industry
leader, and we're proud to have PRISM on board their
products."

The 3Com AirConnect(TM) Wireless LAN solution boosts
productivity by allowing people to stay connected to
network data, email and the Internet -- anywhere in the
enterprise. There are four products in the 3Com
solution; access points, notebook PC Cards, desktop
network interface cards (NICs) and network
management software. The access point acts as a
bridge between the wired network and up to 63 wireless
clients whose laptop, desktop PC, or other wireless
appliances are fitted with either a PC or NIC card.
Harris' PRISM chips are used in all three hardware
products, allowing Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum
(DSSS) radio transmission of data over the 2.4 GHz ISM
band with compliance to the IEEE 802.11 and 802.11 HR
(high rate) standards.

"3Com is pioneering the wireless connectivity revolution
with a high speed, standards-based wireless LAN
solution that will profoundly change the way people
work in the office," said Rich Redelfs, vice president and
general manager of 3Com's Wireless and Home
Connectivity Division. "We are pleased to offer the
industry's most reliable and easiest-to-manage solution
at a price point that will enable broad adoption by
small, medium and large enterprise customers. Harris'
PRISM chips help us accomplish that goal. "
