James D Brady: (1) you don't understand why people would pay $21 using
AOL as their ISP than $15 from some other ISPs (2) you don't understand why AOL's high pe is NOT burst (3) you don't understand why AOL's members 'glue' to AOL.

Well, see if I can do something that might open up your mind:

(1)Most people pay $21 to AOL are either (a) 'mom or dad, all my friends are using AOL and they are all in AIM room and ...' so parents
got do what their kids ask (if the parents can afford the switch)
(b)People who never owns a computer and heard about the internet and
their kids like to get on so they went and bought a PC, guess what?
as the screen opens, they see several ISP icons on the window desktop,
AOL sits right there, the parents/kids see that icon and they all
heard about AOL (such a simple name!), they don't know jack about
what other ISPs, they click that AOL icon,...
the day they hear about some other ISP offers $15/momth, they type
in the URL and went to that URL's page, guess what? they are seeing
a very boring page with xxxx on it, do you think they will change
their AOL with this ISP? besides, it is not easy to change an ISP as
1-2-3 if you don't full around PC with some degree of confidence, that
is a newbies biggest problem! Fear! That is what AOL does best, AOL
let newbies 'feel' it is such a hassle to switch.
(c) do you think everyone know where to find another ISP? you know and
I know because we full around the net, NOT THE NEWBIES!
(d) sucker economics mentality, do you bargin a lot when you go to
stores? if you just pay what the stores ask you to pay, why would a
newbies look for bargin for $5-$6/month? A sucker is a sucker, it is
difficult to change.

(2) You don't understand why high pe AOL can stand there, well,
check all internet stocks, they have been with high pe for several years, most of them with high negative pe because they are losing money, but why their prices are still high? Investors may be
much smarter than you and I, especially the money managers, they have
more resources to 'see' the future, so are betting on the future,
as long as they hold their shares, the pe won't come down, as long as
'the houses' don't see internet come to the end, they won't sell
AOL and AOL's pe will remain high, don't you see that they know
the internet is just on the second inning and there is a long way
to gain so why would they sell AOL?

(3)Cult? Don't you say that word? Of course, it is a cult,
kids in AIM or ICQ are enjoying their life as never before becuase
of the AIM and ICQ, there all have a circle of friends in their
chat room, these kids are AOL's future membership! Once they are
growing into the age that they can subscribe ISP themselves, who do
you think they will go to? Of course, AOL because that is the one
they are growing up with!

Cult? of course it is, just look at yourselve, are we addicted in
this chat room? we are in a cult too! You want to find opinions here
why? you spend a lot time here, why? I think people spent more time
here than spent in church, is it a cult? Of course it is, we just
don't want to admit it!
