Meathead,

In Asia and India it may make a lot of sense for DELL to offer custom localized internet services.

For example, in India and Pakistan and other countries in that region in may make a lot of sense to offer satellite imaging for crop land conditions and weather. It becomes a lot easier to justify the purchase of PC's when they can contribute to the local economy's agriculture and weather tasks. There are other natural extensions to this tactic which can be tuned to the needs of each region of the earth. International localization is is term that used to be applied to the customization of keyboard and display. I think it should be extended to the customization of useful localized content.

Geo satellites can be linked into the internet to provide localized imaging of crop lands as well as regional weather images. I believe these satellites are already in orbit.

Such a tactic would permit more rapid penetration of nascent markets for the PC's and related computers. Plus it would provide an extremely valuable set of services to Asia, India, Russia, etc. It is potentially a product differentiator for DELL and a killer service in those countries.

DELL should be looking for killer services as well as killer applications.

Food for thought.....

Regards,

Jim Kelley
