Another fun and interesting reason some people off themselves, is to gain control of their lives. To re-assert "their dignity." It's like a spiritual decision, of sorts. A chance to regain themselves.

I read a fantastic essay about this and learned it's been cited or known for a long time.

It was discussing Van Gogh, in particular. That it was not his mental illness per se that caused him to kill himself.

I can't find the damn thing, or I'd enter it.

I think people can come to this exception "rationally" That is, not depressed to the end-it level.
