I have shorted stocks,and you do of course need an uptick to set your short price--but your going from the sell side.But when you cover your going from the buyside.When shorts cover rapidly they create buy-side pressure,which can drive a stock up fast.
In a sell-side situation,the short can sit their helplessly waiting for an uptick.Max90 BTW,that is excellently link,for those looking for short candidates.
