Fred- Thanks for the link, I'll bring it to the attention of the ATHM thread, which has some excellent contributors that know a great deal more about these things than I do. I do know it is a race to see who is going to get this thing done. We have pictured a future where a person can go to Circut City and buy a preconfigured cable modem.
The problem has been that there are now at least three different cable internet providers and standards have not been fully applied. This might change with T's buying Media One (which owns a good chunk of Road Runner). T owns the biggest chunk of ATHM (some would say too big a chunk) There is something of a backlash because of that and this is where GNET and HSAC might get their foot in the door. All said, the competition is good for all (keeps the technology moving ahead and regulators out of the picture)....lack of standards are not.
