I wasn't arguing about current needs. I agreed with him on that.
But I don't believe that many of the issues that are causing people/companies to switch from Mac to Wintel today are going to be issues for much longer.
Certainly, if you can't survive now...by all means, the change is necessary. But I don't think it's going to mean a whole hill of beans before too long.

Hey, it ain't all perfect in NT land, neither.

I'm sure you all are sick of my four month saga of trying to get an HP scanner and Polaroid slide scanner working at the same time on my NT box. 20 minute install on my Mac, at home.

But you are right. Steve made a decision to put the eggs in the consumer basket at the expense of the cutting-edge graphics professionals. The stock price is way up, too.

It's no crime to buy an SGI NT workstation. If you really want horsepower, look at the rest of what SGI or Sun can sell you. So some of us move on to other platforms. It's the consumers that are building Apple's market share.

I was really expecting multiple-processor G4 systems out WAY before this. Now I think the move will be to consumer appliances, and hard core, kick-ass performance is not in the picture for Apple any more.

End of an era, probably.

Rant rant rant! Doesn't anyone wanna reason anymore.

I jes don' gettit! Was' wrong wit 3 slots win you gotta fas' box attached to a Firewire bus? Rat nough... ju kin git a 14.4 GB external Firewire hard drive with "extremely fast data transfer up to 400 Mbps" for $899.

Compare that to exteral 4 drive RAID SCSI's 36 MB/s sustained DTR. Now if my assumptions and math are correct, 36 MB/s equals 288 Mbps. And, 26 GB of that will cost you $1699.

Who needs slots, serial and SCSI with Firewire becoming an across the universe STANDARD? Wassa big deal 'bout Apple flagging on all'a high end dudes?

Throw out your old tech and see how they roll. The answer may reveal... your rant is unreal.
