<CMGI, IMO, is going to follow this path..>

CMGI is going to start buying undervalued companies with huge, dependable cash flow streams?

Or are they going to buy inflated "assets" that destroy rather than create cashflow?

MIKE

if cmgi is truly to become another berkshire hathaway, it will need to buy existing concerns as well as the ipos it incubates. it will have to develop, over the long haul, more than a few successes, and will ultimately have to rely on the earnings of its holding rather than their share prices to determine their value and cmgi's true value. although it is still early in the internet to exepct too much of this, cmgi's move toward alta vista is in the right direction, imho.

the purchase of alta vista will, however, hammer the share price, because, unless cmgi pays pennies on the dollar for it, which is unlikely, there will be shareholder consensus that cmgi paid too much-- even if cmgi paid a fair price, or even a low price. the si and rb boards will be full of analyses explaining why cmgi paid too much, how dw is losing his touch, why we should short cmgi, etc. so although buying something like av is probably a good idea for cmgi and what it wants to be when it grows up, share prices will be hammered by disappointed unrealistic expectations. yay. i've been through enough volatility, so let me add that as a long, i fervently hope i'm wrong, and nothing will please me more than a cmgi spike on av acquisition. how low will it go? too low for my happiness.
