On the "True" and the "Good"

I worry that Truth is as ultimately evasive as any other god-concept.

In my opinion, Lather, you are right to worry.

I should perhaps have added a sentence to my original statement:

Just because believing something would make me feel good does not mean it is true.

That sentence would be:

It also does not mean I cannot act as if it were true.

Personally, I do a lot of as-iffing, in matters of importance to me. That is, even if I cannot be sure that something I believe is true, when I need to act, I will act as if it were true.

Tha's called, I believe, "living in a state of existential tension." <gg>
