The "ryanscott" Enigma... Or, "What's The Frequency, Weby?"

Most of us recall the morning (I believe it was a Saturday morning) that the enigmatic poster, "ryanscott", appeared with information that turned out to be misinformation... regarding WAVX being included in some sort of STB spec... if memory serves. In any case, "he" assured us that WAVX was known to Sarnoff, RCA, Philips, Hughes, Thomson, etc. and would figure into all of their plans. (We knew the Sarnoff part, but the other stuff was intriguing.) He was ticking off grocery list of brand names apparently taken from The Grand Alliance whose work on DTV standards was saluted with a major award last year.

When asked "What was up with all these big names and WAVX?" his response was one word. Does anybody else remember this? The word was "test."

(Hindsight being 20/20 and all, it looks as if "ryanscott" may have been presaging the Sarnoff, WAVX, Fantastic Corporation "inTelecast" deal.)

Then, ryanscott vanished into legend. However, I found him--and called him by name --recently on the Yahoo! WAVX thread. He had visited twice or so with pretty much the same schtick... a grocery list of Grand Alliance superstars admixed with a little Microsoft for taste.

Now, here's where it gets good. Steven was asked at one of the road shows about the progress of inTelecast (which I have probably misspelled for the umpteenth time). And what did HE say? He said that a "test" was upcoming.

The answer is out there.

Best Regards,

c m
