Bush: 'Difficult weekend at our house'
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., June 22 (UPI) - Gov. Jeb Bush says his wife
Columba was worried about him seeing how much she had spent during a
shopping spree in Paris when she attempted to clear U.S. Customs last
week without declaring $19,000 worth of clothing and jewelry.

The trip ended up costing Florida's first family $23,100 after
Columba Bush wrote a $4,100 check to the government to cover a civil
fine.

The governor said, "I can assure you it was a difficult weekend at
our house."

U.S. Customs officials say the state's first lady acknowledged the
purchases only after Customs officers found receipts in her passport
totaling thousands of dollars more than the $500 in merchandise she had
declared upon arrival at Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport.

In his first public remarks about the incident, Bush tried to guard
his wife's privacy, and said how she spends her money is not the
public's business.

The governor said: "I love my wife more than life. She is my comfort
and I am very proud of her. What she does with our money is our business
- she can deal with that with me."

He added: "My wife is a private person. She is uncomfortable with
the limelight, which is why I love her."

Bush did not accompany his wife on her trip to Paris.

The couple will leave this weekend for their summer vacation - a
week-long stay at the Bush family's coastal retreat in Kennebunkport,
Maine.

That's a nice article Michael, but the bottom line is this: public education in America must go. ALL education should and must be privatized. GET THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF OUR SCHOOLS!
