By: jimee11 Reply To: None Saturday, 26 Jun 1999 at 7:23 PM EDT Post # of 36770 ALL -- Let us reflect for a moment about what is upon us. A new realm of computing is emerging before us. A society where we, ordinary people, can connect to information we need ANYWHERE and ANYTIME. No longer will we be bound by a PC, cables, and MSFT. The ability to connect to appliances, email, Internet, your business, family, etc. will be available on 1 handheld device. A paradigm ... a shift in thinking .. a new way to live. Internation Data Corporation has predicted that the embedded systems market will hit the 6-billion-dollar mark by 2000. An analyst for IDC, Sean Kaldor, prophesied that "...the coming of a digital tidal wave of consumer electronic products relying on embedded systems." Embedded systems...applications built to work in handhelds, cell phones, PDAs, appliances, etc. Who will power the software? MSFT? Nope ... Who then???? Sun Microsystems with the Java language ... What is compatable with Java ChorusOS and JavaOS? The Micro OS by e.Digital .... Why was ChorusOS and the JavaOS developed? To allow for "true" platform independance in ALL handheld consumer devices. The JavaOS runs Java applications "...directly on the microprocessors." Who has the only PATENTED Java Microprocessor? Mr.Norris and his company Patriot Scientific. IDC goes on to state that "By 2005, we're expecting that non-PC-based products are going to need 1.9 billion microprocessors annually. Thats sunstantially larger than the PC market we know today." Why do you thik Texas Instruments is "focusing" their attention to their DSP chip family? Java enabled microprocessors for handheld consumer devices. Texas Instruments sees the "light at the end of the tunnel." They know whats coming .. Lucent recently unveiled the 2.0 version of its product called "Inferno". It is a network operating system which enables small, inexpensive consumer devices, like screen phones and intelligent set-top boxes to comunicate to networks by using Personal Java APIs designed SPECIFICALLY for HANDHELDS i.e. Cell Phones and PDAs! Texas Instruments has licensed both Personal Java and Embedded Java for inclusion in their own DSP microprocessors. Texas Instruments wants into the handheld market ... and BAD! Why? They see the "light at the end of the tunnel." Do you see what is going on here? This is a revolution that is about to happen before us. The downloadable music business will be the first of many transformations in our lives as to how we access and get consumer goods and services. Palm Pilots will become the "norm" before too long. The success of the Internet music venture will be the catalyst for more and more changes. Companies i.e. Lucent, e.Digital, IBM, Texas Instruments, Cisco, Intel, etc. know this. Even Microsoft knows this ... and is running .. nowhere... Unuderstand what is happening here .. position yourself in companies which will prosper from this paradigm change ... Know that e.Digital is one of them ... - J
