"Cominco...recently invented, patented, and is currently marketing a new environmentally friendly process for the hydrometallurgical extraction of copper from sulphide concentrates based on pressure leaching, solvent-extraction, and electrowinning. A demonstration plant capable of producing up to 500 tonnes per year of refined copper ran successfully during 1997. A gold recovery plant will be comissioned in 1998 as the process is also expected to recover gold from copper concentrate."

I seem to remember hearing something a couple of years back about some firm wanting to pump leaching solution of some sort into the ground and then pump out the pregnant leach later, but I think that would guarantee ground water contamination and would never fly. This isn't what you're talking about, is it?

<< Don't usually see the word "solvent" and
"environmentally friendly" in the same sentence.>>

Depends... This is the second time I hear of these same words in the same sentence. A little company name Geo2 has a friendly process and is producing gold with it in China. But I am not sure at all they are similar process.
