Chi Pan, we think along the same paths. I, too, wonder what kind of
response ALSC will get when their price to book drops to less than 1,
when UMC and BRCM assets are reported in book value. I think many
large investors (mutual funds, pensions)screen for stocks selling at/ below book value. This could bring in more large buyers.
I think ALSC likes to save resources (cash/equities) they get during
good times to tide them over during slack times. A cyclic industry.
The share buyback may be forgotten, although the UMC and BRCM deals
could enable this program. If the company keeps growing, more shares,
not less, might be made available to increase liquidity, perhaps a
stock split. ALSC is approaching US$1B size and could support 60 or
80 million shares IMHO.
A little investment in R&D is always prudent, too. The Reddy's seem
to see the future direction of the semi industry well.
