Jim and Jim, given that a rate increase is a forgone conclusion, the obvious question remains unanswered for now. I think the market will rally when it's answered.

Look for a tip-off on a neutral policy from the Fed soon after a quarter point hike. World economies are still fragile and need reassurance. After all, didn't we lower interest rates mostly in the interest of the global picture ?

I'm not smart enough to know "what the market expects," with regards to interest rates. Its been selling off in anticipation of higher rates and the worry there might be real cause for Fed action. It may be the Fed is just giving the bond market its turn, remember those Fed govs are mostly bond types.

To me the market is like an overfed herd of buffalo easily spooked by lightning and packs of wolves. When it gets moving its hard to predict where, how far, or for what reason it moved in the first place. The other analogy that makes sense is the one about the blind men and the elephant.. no one sees the whole beast, only parts that seem to have a different purpose.
