TO ALL: I just cancelled my "Direct TV", and I think a lot of others may do the same. They were forced to drop the Network east and west coast feed that I was getting. I had kept cable for the local stations and because my wife could not work the remote. They are joining with AOL for an IP feed. I would think that this loss of the Networks would effect them quite a bit. This legal battle over access is really a political one, and will be solved finally by market forces. The Networks are a thing of the past, but they won't go easily. We are going to watch this type of battle play out with ATHM and AOL. I really think that the "common carrier" approach should win out on cable, but, "time will tell!" I wonder if CSCO will stay a penny or two over this time. I suspect that earnings will be so good one of these times that their Auditors will force them to go higher. If it happens, look out! The stock would double. (Sunday Morning wishful thinking!) As a "Local", it will be interesting to watch the effect of Q on San Diego. That was a "Navy" town, now on its way to becoming a "Q" town. Will be like the Seattle reaction to softy. Fun's rundown of the LU/cisco battle is interesting. I have always felt his opinion was that LU had the upper hand, and that Cisco would not be able to change things over to packet. I am glad to see his version of that argument, because, A: It is prevailing Industry opinion. B: It is a well done, logical layout, not the "rant" we get from the engineers on the Cisco thread who work for the opposition. C: He certainly knows 100 times more about it than I do. However: I think he overestimates LU and underestimates Cisco. When both companies do well, Cisco does it off a smaller base, and should therefore Cisco's stock should be the better return. If Cisco could get packet based voice out in a big way, we would really get rich. You know, I would not have understood what I am talking about on Cisco before I joined SI and started reading a lot of very smart people. (Alright, you turkeys, no comments to the effect that I still don't know what I am talking about!)
