I use DLJ exclusively for shorting and it is EXCELLENT for that purpose. They have a dedicated app, Marketspeed, for online trading in addition to the web site. They let you short all kinds of BB stocks that most brokers won't let you short. People on SI say customer service is horrendous, but I've never had a problem (granted, I've only been with them 6 months). The majority of my money is with Schwab. I've got Signature Platinum status there so I have my own account reps which is nice (i.e. they pick up within a few rings). Short availability is poor at Schwab and commissions are pretty heavy IMHO. However, there are times when the service compensates for the commissions.
