Y2K Concerns Might Spur Move on Rates by Fed kentuckyconnect.com The reasoning is the distortions to economic data will handcuff the Fed after September. If they don't act by Aug 24, they will not be able to act on preempting inflation before next Spring. By then, it might be too late. Not to mention election politics and Greenspan's term expiring in mid-year.
