No, I am not disturbed by your list, Michael. I just wanted to point out that the discussion got started with Terrence's statement that there is a danger that more and more things will be made into crimes, and I was arguing another point of view.

I just don't think serious crimes and less serious crimes fall into the same category, that is all. I don't think praying will ever be a crime, either, as long as you don't badger others about their different religious beliefs.

Did I say something to indicate that people who have had their children killed in a drunk driving accident would not consider those laws serious? I find it hard to imagine that I did, since I think the penalties for driving drunk should be extremely grave.

You did seem to trivialize drunk driving, however, by including it is your list of much less serious crimes:

Smoking in a building.
Wearing a seat belt.
Drinking at the age of 18.
Drinking and then Driving a motor vehicle.
Letting your dog run free.
Running a motor boat anywhere in the San Juan Islands.
Killing whales.
Killing seals.
Fishing without a license.
Crabbing without a license.
Saying a prayer at school.

So then it is curious that you would accuse me of trivializing it.
