I would consider American communists patriots- as long as they intended the betterment of the United States, loved this country, and did not intend its destruction- their intent is key to whether or not they are patriots. It would not destroy the United States to have multiple parties- and the communists could certainly be one such party. Patriots can have bad AND good effects- I classify them as patriots based on their intent, and I classify them as "good" or "bad" based on my subjective opinion of the results of their actions.
