That is not always true. The other possibility is the company is doing well but the analysts don't understand what is happening. That is a great time to buy stocks.

For example: GALT in October of 1998 was misunderstood and unloved by wallstreet. Now it is in the low $40's.

If you can understand the importance of the company and the prospects and take a longer view than one quarter or two, then you make money, but you are flying without that nice reassurance of the "analysts" if you do.
