We had a skeptical discussion about XTON/ELOT back in April. Now that the thread is back on the Hot Topics list, I looked at the chart.

Straight down.

Depends on what the other buyer might want. If its purely a hardware play then the CPQ revenue stream would be very important in terms of predictability. On the other hand if its CPQ as a suitor they may be trying to digest the whole of Digital in small pieces. The thought crossed my mind when they purchased the remaining part of Digital that it just might be a phase play. 1st buy and integrate the workstation and cpu business, then the networking and dump the software.

I was in negotiation a couple years back to buy a division of DEC that did a slick SW product that put process controls into the development of software operating system. They had the "hooks" for all the big guys already built in. Then along came the consolidation of that industry (software development tools) and CPQ and CS were nosing around at the time.

Rather than sell us the division (it was barely breaking even on a stand-alone basis)they closed it down and took the write down instead. This whole scene has smelled of strange goings on for two to three years now.
