The real question is could they make the profits they are are reporting from hedging alone.

I seriously doubt it, which means that they must be speculating on the short side, as well as hedging ... Their profits took a big jump (4-5 times) in 1997 and 1998, indicating a possible shift in the nature of their 'premium gold sales' strategy.

IMHO, if gold takes a big run and they get burned badly, I am sure their are plenty of lawyers willing to take the class action case on behalf of their shareholders.
